Pierre Krähenbühl has served as UNRWA Commissioner-General since March 2014. A Swiss national, Mr. Krähenbühl has 25 years of experience in humanitarian, human rights and development work. Prior to joining UNRWA, he served as Director of Operations at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) from July 2002 to January 2014.
Christian Saunders was appointed acting Deputy Commissioner General in August 2019 by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. Mr Saunders has over 30 years of experience in international affairs, much of it focusing on delivering results and overseeing major reforms leading to improved organization effectiveness and efficiency. He also has significant humanitarian field experience, including a previous posting with UNRWA and UNHCR.
